Socially useful productive work is defined as purposive, meaningful, manual work resulting in goods or services which is useful to the society.
Socially useful productive work is to be developed in the light of the Gandhian philosophy of basic education which was work-centred. In Basic education as propounded by Gandhiji craft occupied a pivotal position because by education he meant drawing out of the best in the child and man-body, mind and spirit. Iswaribai Patel committee is recommended the commission for the rising of student skills with learning Gandhian principles.
Objectives
1.Developing individual skills.
2.Help to develop among the students the habit to work as a community
3.Encourage community thinking,
4.Increase awareness of scientific advancements and develop a scientific outlook
5.Increase Students vocational skills and vocational abilities
Activities
The activities under the SUPW program in our college is conducted under the supervision of Gandhigram. There the works were mainly lead by the students themselves and that were also with the guidence of Kumara Sir( representative of Gandhigram) and Sasidharan( vocational skills specialist and the patron of Anandanilayam girls home, Mariyamman Kovil, Trivandrum).
